ASK55 Group Buy
Register your interest for our February launch here.
In Summer 2018, I fell in love with the Apple M0116 keyboard and layout. I explored the idea of making a modern, sleek keyboard using the gorgeous keycaps and Alps switches. There was nothing readily available, unlike for the AEKII. And, after quickly realising that a regular 60% case for the Alps64 wasn’t going to cut it, the ASK55 was born.
With one universal QMK-compatible PCB, a choice of plates and a special three-piece, case mount constructed case, the ASK55 will reinvent the 14.5u layout.
The ASK55 will offer direct support for Alps layouts including the Apple M0116, M0118, M0330, IIc, IIc Plus and Mac Portable plus the NeXT (non-ADB) AAE and ABP.
Our cases are available in an Apple-inspired 6063 aluminium or sleek frosted polycarbonate. Two top case parts have been curated, to appropriately suit both the swooping or flat keycap profiles. We remained true to the original aesthetic by inheriting the iconic wide-berth bezel. This means no needless chamfers, abrupt edges or overexuberant branding.
Both 1.9mm and 5.4mm bumpons are provided in all kits, allowing you to add 2.2 degrees of angle to flat profile keycaps. For the swooping keysets, the angle is provided by the profile of the keycaps however bumpons are still provided.
Each plate has been hand-drafted and proof-tested in person, to guarantee compatibility and accuracy. Our plates, offered in both brass and 304 stainless steel, are brushed on both faces and finished to an unrivalled standard.
The purpose-built, QMK-compatible PCB has been developed by Yiancar in the UK and features a white PCB mask with gold joints, USB-C connectivity and underglow LEDs.
Each of our group buy kits includes a complete case, plate, PCB, 1.9mm and 5.4mm bumpons, 8 x M2.5 cheese slot screws to match your plate and a 2mm cheese slot screwdriver. Screws and bumpons will also be included with case extras where applicable. Kits, extras and in-stock parts will ship together once all group buy articles are ready to deliver. In order to complete your build, you will require a compatible keycap set and Alps SKCM switches.
